Blog Challenge #2

Great job to everyone who responded to the first "blog challenge", I loved reading all of your different comments!

Now here is your next challenge...

1) Name at least one dolphin James showed you LIVE during the first weeks calls and if they were doing anything specific.

2) Go to the link at the top of the blog for our website, click on the catalogue link, pick any dolphins name you want, then tell me who you picked and something you learned from reading the database!

Make sure to comment on this post by clicking "comment" right below.
(Don't answer future challenges on the students tab that way we can keep better track of responses, thanks!)

  3. Hi my name is Helena. I go to POBMS. One dolphin James showed my class live was Avery. I feel bad for Avery because she just had a YOY and it died. I didn't think that Avery had feelings for this YOY but James said dolphins have feelings. Because of this I feel really bad for Avery a lot more than before I was told dolphins have feelings.

  5. Hi! I'm Maddie B and I live in Plainview, NY. I go to POBMS. One of the dolphins that James showed us was Lucky Charm. Lucky Charm was following the boat and playing in the boat's wake. Lucky Charm was very friendly. Lucky Charm poked his/her head out of the water and did what appeared to be a smile. Once or twice, Lucky Charm leaped out of the water. He/she looked beautiful. So far, Lucky Charm is my favorite dolphin, mainly because he/she is VERY frienly!

  6. Hi, my name is Brian and I go to POBMS in Plainview, NY. One of the dolphins that James showed us was Hatchet. Hatchet was staying near the boat and swimming with Avery and Capri. He might have been playing with them, considering that he is a sub-adult dolphin. His dorsal fin really looked the the blade of a hatchet! The dolphin I picked from the database was Rocky. One thing that I learned about Rocky is that he has one calf, and one YOY.

  7. Hi, my name is Lindsay Jacobson. I live in New York. I am so excited to start learning about dolphins. James, our dolphin project teacher, has taught us many things about these amazing marine animals. For example, he has taught us about male pair-bonds. Male Pair Bonds are when two male dolphins join together as a team. They help each other fish and protect each other from danger, including sharks. James has also taught us about dolphins becoming Sub-Adults. Sub Adults are basically teenage dolphins. They start to show whether they are a female or a male. Experts find out by observing their behavior. A female will spend more time with mothers and calves learning how to become a mother. Males will look for another male to create a Male Pair Bond with. I hope to see a dolphin soon!

  9. Hi my name is Chris from NY.I really like how the dolphin project is so far. I learned in one of the videos about the different types of dolphin dorsal fins. I just forgot the names of the different types of dorsal fins. could you remind me what they were? I also remember seeing the video with batman and robin! they always stayed very close to each other which i think is called a male pair bond. I hope we'll get to see more dolphins soon!

  11. Hi my name is Sam C. I go to POBMS. James showed us Hatchet and Capri during our live video chat. Hatchet and Capri are one of the younger male pair bonds. When they are spotted, they are usually swimming along side each other or fishing. In the catalog, I saw that Zipper's mom is Button. I really enjoy seeing dolphins live during the video chat.

  14. Hi, My name is Luke and I go to POBMS. In science this year, we have been learning about dolphins. I cant believe how many different kinds there are. One dolphin we saw was named Joey. He was swimming close to the boat to have fun in the waves. After looking at the dolphin website, I chose a dolphin called Bubbles. He is still alive and his moms name is Roamana. Bubbles age is unknown as well as his gender. His swimming patterns have shown Bubbles to swim in waters between 6and15 feet deep.
